Enjoyed working with Anna, she very quickly grasped what we were trying to achieve and applied rigour and great thoroughness to the entire process - also a commitment well above the call of duty.

1. Illuminating York Festival

Type: Organisational Development

In November each year, Illuminating York invites leading contemporary artists to reinvent the city of York through light, experimenting with new technologies and artistic approaches to offer fresh perspectives on the city's public (and secret) spaces - and new interpretations of its historic fabric. The festival is delivered by a consortium of cultural, academic, public and private sector partners reaching right across the city.

I worked with the Steering Group to clarify the vision and aspirations for the festival, assess the relative value/importance of its different aspects for key stakeholders and funders, and capture relevant learning from other, comparable festivals and events. A clear 3-year development route was mapped out on the strength of this work.

“Anna brought exceptional clarity and focus to this complex piece of work. The review was wide ranging and the analysis of a very high standard and extremely well communicated. Recommendations resulting from the research, in terms of breadth and depth, were thoughtful, imaginative and strategically focussed. Anna's continuing support has proved invaluable in helping the Steering Group to work its way through the recommendations and keep to the schedule of activities and decision making during this key implementation phase.

I would highly recommend Anna as a highly competent, articulate strategic thinker and communicator.”

Professor Steve Purcell
Chair Illuminating York Steering Group.

2. Screen Yorkshire

Type: Project planning/bid writing

Screen Yorkshire works closely with regional cinemas, festivals, film societies and the Yorkshire Film Archive to improve people's access to film throughout Yorkshire. Now the agency is planning to go the extra mile, harnessing new digital technologies to bring the highest quality cinema experience to communities in rural North Yorkshire who have no access to a local cinema.

I worked with Screen Yorkshire and their strategic partners to develop and cost a comprehensive 3-year plan, and prepare a detailed - and successful - funding application supported by key delivery partners across the region.

“Enjoyed working with Anna, she very quickly grasped what we were trying to achieve and applied rigour and great thoroughness to the entire process - also a commitment well above the call of duty.”

Jay Arnold, Head of Cultural Sector Investment

3. Magic Me

Type: Strategic planning and fundraising

Based in Tower Hamlets, Magic Me is the UK's leading provider of intergenerational activities, bringing young and older people together in for mutual benefit, learning and enjoyment.

We worked together to produce - and fundraise towards - a 3-year development plan, designed to extend the reach and impact of Magic Me's services and to bring their experience and skills to bear in shaping the growing field of intergenerational practice in the UK.

“Working with Anna was an extremely successful and productive experience for Magic Me. She grasped our situation and needs very quickly, and brought real energy and focus to guiding staff and trustees through the process of review, planning and fundraising. I learned a great deal from working with her, which I continue to apply to my own funding bids.”

Susan Langford, Director

4. Calderdale CAB

Type: Funding feasibility/funder research

Calderdale Citizens Advice Bureau (CCAB) helps more clients per pound of funding than any other CAB in the North of England. It is a wonderfully nimble and responsive organisation, bristling with ideas and enterprising new approaches to tackling the very varied needs of its clients.

We worked together on organising the many initiatives planned for the years ahead into a coherent proposition for funders, and identifying and approaching a small number of 'kindred funding spirits' who could really make a difference to CCAB.

“Working with Anna was a useful and stimulating process. She really helped in shaping our messages so we could communicate them clearly to the right people. The funding outcome has been terrific - and a good fit too, so we know we'll be delivering exactly what those funders want and expect.”

Rory Deighton, Chief Executive

5. York Theatre Royal

Type: Capital projects

York Theatre Royal is pioneering imaginative new ways of engaging young people in theatre and creativity. Once a year, the theatre is handed over lock stock and barrel to teams of young people to programme, manage and promote as they choose; its vibrant youth theatre is bursting at the seams; each year it finds new ways of motivating schoolchildren to learn and thrive through the stuff of theatre.

The theatre's expanding activity is crying out for new facilities and accommodation. I worked with the senior team to clarify the vision and ambition for the new York Theatre Royal and to plan and implement a phased approach to realising these goals, hand in hand with key strategic partners and funders.

“It has been a real pleasure working with Anna. She has skilfully steered us through a complicated set of issues, helping us to consider and articulate our future and plan a project which builds on our strengths, to realise our ambitions. We have appreciated her professionalism and her intelligent, enthusiastic and committed approach.”
